Hey all,
I think I now have all of your addresses, I'm not totally sure on George's but I think that it's right. Things are getting better here in Ka'u. I finally figured out what my address here is:
P.O. Box 121
Naalehu, Hi 96772
This will just be a few days faster as it doesn't have to go to Honolulu first. I'll for sure be here until August 10th and I assume I'll probably be here for another transfer after that but who knows haha. I know I was going to send pictures, but we had an appointment we had to hurry home for Tuesday, so we didn't stop at Walmart in Hilo. Tomorrow however we are planning on stopping and getting some groceries, so I should be able to make a cd then.
Sounds like your guy's week was a great time, especially the 4th. I'm sure it was a great as I remember ha ha and I'm sure the kids loved the parade and all the candy ha ha. Pictures are fine to be attached, I'm thinking I'll have to start at least attaching a couple here and there as I take more.
So anyway here is my weekly recap:.
Monday, we had all day P-day. Since it was the 4th, President Dalton didn't want us out on the streets after 6pm, so he informed us to reschedule any dinner after 6pm and to just keep playing basketball at the stake center instead of making a few visits after 6pm like p-day usually is. It was a lot of fun. We headed up to Hilo around 11am and met up with the other companionship in my district at their place (about half way to Hilo). We made it about 1pm and just played basketball with the zone and some local members. I took a break to email around 4pm or so, I think. We stayed until about 7pm and then made a frozen pizza and called it a day.
Tuesday, we got up and headed out for district meeting. We meet all together as a zone in Hilo and then break off to our sperate zones and then head for lunch as a zone. We picked a place called Pearls Bakery. It was a really good and a great deal: pulled pork sandwich, can of pop, and brownie for about $5. We will have to go there again, I think. After the meeting we raced home to meet Halai (The 10 yr old whose grandparents are members). They weren't home however, so we called and rescheduled for this Tuesday. Anyway, with the extra time we now had we decided to knock a few doors on either side of their house, which to do so we had to walk about the distance from Maverik to Family dollar, if their house was on Eastmoor. The houses are about that far apart everywhere in our area, it's pretty crazy. Anyway, we knocked on a house that looked pretty abandoned and was for sale. We were surprised to find an old lady answer the door and invite us right in. She said she had never talked to missionaries before, but had always wanted to. She said she had seen us walking around town before, but figured we were busy or whatever, so she never came up to us. Anyway, she showed us her whole family history and explained some of her Catholic beliefs, and asked our stance on it. We shared some quick doctrines about the Plan of Salvation, that she really wanted to hear. The Spirit was so strong and she told us we were welcome back to share more. It just builds my testimony that we were put in the area that afternoon, not to teach Halai, but too find Dorothy and share our message with her. We had spaghetti for dinner at a members house that night and then visted a few less actives and called it a night.
Wednesday, we headed out for the other side of the area. We met with some less actives, and former investigators. No one was really interested in taking the lessons more, so that was a little disappointing. Around 3pm we were looking for a place to stop and knock on some doors, and Elder Wilson announced "I'll stop when the Spirit tells me to stop!" We drove about 10 feet and stopped. The 2nd house we knocked at was a couple that invited us right in and wanted to hear "The good word". Kind of a shocker for me that we had very little success my first week here, and now 2 days in a row we came across some golden people. We didnt get to share much but they thanked us, gave us their phone number, and set up a return for Friday. Dinner again was spaghetti at a different members house.
Thursday was a lot of knocking doors and talking with less active members. We finalized plans for Miracle to be baptized this week so that is exciting. For the 3rd straight day we had spaghetti ha ha. I was getting a little tired of it by this point. But I ate it all and I'm definitely never hungry at night.
Friday, we returned to Bill and Minona. The first thing they said was after we left they felt the truth of what we said, and there was lots of peace in their house. I was definitely excited to hear that, maybe too excited. They enjoyed that we could laugh and smile as we shared experience from our lives and theirs and that it wasn't like the typical church they were used to where its all business and prayers and stuff, so that was positive. We taught about how the gospel blesses families and they agreed 100%. We are going super slow with them, but they are coming to know the truth of the gospel for sure. Hopefully, when we go tomorrow we can really talk about the restoration and the importance of reading the Book of Mormon.
Saturday, we did lots of service and work in the ward garden and around the ward. It was good, we found a new potential investigator so we will have to see how that goes.
Yesterday, church went as usual. We stayed for choir. It wasn't the same as the MTC but it was still nice. After, we went and taught and had dinner with Tui. It was great. He has really started reading the Book of Mormon and prayed and he really knows it is true. He expressed concerns about the Word of Wisdom, but he knows that if he really wants to stop, Heavenly Father will do the rest as long as he does all he can. The guy is Golden. The food was great, however they wouldn't let us stop. They kept our plates full. Samoans don't eat until they are full, they eat until they are tired of eating. ha ha
Today, we are going to head up to Hawaii Volcano National Park. It is about 30 minutes north of us. I'm super excited. I'll have to take some good pictures and send them home too.
Hope all is doing well. We have meals with members almost everyday. I think there is just 1 or 2 days in July where no one has signed up, but I'm sure they will fill up. It's awesome to hear about everybody getting their calls. Hope all is well in G-ville, Murray, El-Paso, and Kaneohe. By the way, Elder Brown, who was here before I came got transferred to the Kaneohe 2nd ward so you might run into him. He is well loved by the people here so he must be a good guy. Aloha
Love, Elder Tripp
