Pretty Solid Week But A Few Downs Too

Hey all,
Things are continuing to progress here in Ka'u. Lots of good good things are going on. Thanks for the CD's they are a life saver with all the miles we drive. We are up to 2200 miles for the month which is a ton for this mission. The Hilo Elders get a limit of 1000 for the whole month haha. Today for Pday Elder Wilson and I are just gonna hang around Naalehu and stop at the scenic points, snap a few photos, stop at this Tiki tradepost deal and see if they have anything cool. A member offered to take us to lunch today so of course we aren't gonna pass that up. We have a baptism set for august 6th, so that is exciting, more on that later.

Tuesday last week we spent a while in Hilo. The district meeting went extra long since the Zone leaders had some extra business to take care of. We then ate as a zone at KFC, which was awesome. After that we needed to pick up some stuff at Walmart. I found a nice University of Hawaii shirt at Ross for $5 so of course I couldn't pass that up. We got back at around 3 and did some tracting. Nothing really came of it but we planted lots of seeds that maybe one day they will act on the pamphlet or pass along card we left with them. We stopped at Bill & Winona's around 4:30pm and shared a little bit more of the restoration with them. They are progressing, but super slow. We only get to share 1 or 2 principles with them at a time but they really feast on it and can't wait for us to come back. This week we are hoping to share about the apostasy and then go into the restoration with them. I hope that will really light the fire they are truly looking for. We then went and ate with Pule. He cooked us marlin which was amazing. While we were eating Tui came home from work. He informed us he was going camping and would have to cancel this week. He invited us to a party on Saturday for dinner and to meet some of his friends. He also told us that his only options for getting Sunday off was to quit or take a demotion of $3 an hour and 5 less hours a week so that was tough for him. We shared with him Ether 12:6 and that we only receive the witness after the trial of our faith. He believes that and hopefully he will take the steps he needs to. That night we had FHE with a recent convert family of 9 we invited them to invite friends as well. Unfortunately at the last minute, the investigating family they invited backed out. We still had a good lesson on family and lots of good food.

Wednesday we hung around the Naalehu and tracted around most of the day. We met some good people and shared a few good messages with them. We did our week plan on Wednesday instead of Thursday because we were going on exchanges with the other elders in our zone Thursday. We met around with some members seeking referrals and got a couple so that was successful. That night we met up with the Kea'au elders around 8 and I traded with Elder Davis for the night and Thursday.

Thursday, in Kea'au with Elder Toki (our district leader) was awesome. Man I love him. He is Tongan and hilarious, but he also knows why we are out here and is a spiritual giant. We taught lots of recent converts and less-actives in the morning. Those were great, they seem to be doing well and have a strong desire to keep going. That afternoon We went and helped a super solid investigator plant some Taro. It reminded me of our garden back home and all the good times with that. She thanked us and fed us. After that we went straight to our dinner appointment. It was tough to knock down 2 dinners back to back, but some how I managed. I guess that it was good to make sure my clothes continue to fit haha! Back in Ka'u lots of good stuff happened Thursday evening. We taught miracle's 10 yr old cousin and committed him for baptism. They whole Taetuna Clan felt that spirit from the baptism. They were all at church Sunday. Its so cool and such a testimony to see that you never know what impact you can have on someones life. Just Miracle's choice to be baptized has brought 20 people to or into the church. Thursday night we met back up with Elder Wilson and Davis and stayed the night at the Kea'au pad.

Friday we had a zone car wash in Hilo. It was a lot of fun. We washed about 50 cars in 2 hours. The poeple would park their car and while we washed it the senior couple took them on a chapel tour and to eat some refreshments. The zone probably got about 15 referrals which is awesome! Unfortunately none for us in Ka'u. We got back late from that and just had time to visit a few part member families and dinner.

Saturday we helped out Bollo and Jessica again. This time they let us teach them about the restoration. Jessica has been reading the book of Mormon and Bollo just listens. Jessica really seems interested so hopefully her fire will inspire Bollo. We headed down to Discovery Harbor and met with Dorothy again. She told us she didn't believe much of the restoration pamphlet we left, but she truly believes that plan of Salvation, so hopefully when we really get to teach the restoration she will feel the spirit. That night we went to the party Tui was having. It was great we met some of Tui's friends and fellowship them. Unfortunately the alcohol kinda ruined any chance we had to really teach them. Tui still thanked us for coming and it seemed to really help him know we care about him more than just wanting him to be a member of the church. We truly want to be his friend.

Sunday was just typical Sunday. We got a new ward list form the Elders Quorum president and re-established goals with the ward so that was good.

Thats where I'm at now.
Love to continue hearing from all of you. :)
Aloha!! (Atonement, Love, Obedience, "HA" the breath of life)
                                                               Love, Elder Benjamin Tripp
