I'm happy to report another solid week down here in Southern Hawaii. Things are really starting to get rolling down here. My 1st couple weeks were a little rough, but we got to going smooth like Soul Train now. It was good to receive a couple letters and the package with all the lifesavers and cds. I think we are good with music for now, but thanks so much. Its good to have lots of variety.
Monday, Elder Wilson and I went down to the very southern tip of the United states! Well as close as missionaries are allowed to get. There isn't sand, but the waves really crash hard against the rocks so we got as close as we felt was safe, and took some pictures. I'll send some more home in a week or two. It was really fun. We picked up some hermit crabs and pulled some muscles off the rock. We had Pizza with a family that night and then cashed it in for the day.
Tuesday we headed up to Hilo for our District Meeting, we found out Monday that the traveling assistants to the president would be In Hilo this week and Elder Street would come with us on Tuesday and Wednesday. He is from Mona, Utah. He has 7 weeks left as a missionary and it shows. I thought he was awesome and he had lots of tips to make our companionship stronger and better missionaries individually too. We stopped by Bill and Winona on the way home form Hilo. We had the best lesson yet with them. We had a really great lesson on the first vision and the Book of Mormon. Winona is starting to read it and we invited them to read 3rd Nephi 27, and then pray about it together to see what they feel. I can't wait to go back and see how it went. :) After that we just knocked lots of doors. We talked to about 20 people. We got to teach a lesson while tracting which was cool, but she wasn't interested in a return appointment, hopefully we increased her faith a little more for the next time we or another set of missionaries.
Wednesday we got up, and after studies, we got a back adjustment from the chiropractor that has his office close by. After that we stayed in Naalehu and visited a few less-actives. One of which expressed the desire of her 30 yr old daughter to be Baptized. That was defiantly a positive :) We are going to start teaching her this week now that her kids are all in school. Its so crazy the school starts the first of August. Did Lucy start school today? Anyway after that we went up to Jessica and Bollo. Jessica is solid and really loves the book of Mormon, but Bollo isn't and Jessica doesn't want to come to church without him. :( Hopefully he will come around though :) That night we met halfway to Kea'au to drop off Elder Street with them. He gave us some feed back which was positive. Maybe a little too positive. I need to remember a little humility. :) He also mentioned Elder Workman and Hudson were doing good as well which was good to hear.
Thursday we went back up to Alona, we ended up having to postpone his baptism for the 13th because the family was going to be out of town, and they wanted everyone to be there. Hopefully I'll still be around since transfers are the 10th. I'm pretty confident I'll still be in Ka'u for at least another transfer though. Alona was doing good and his little sister as well. They are both for sure on there way to be ready for the 13th. We stopped by Tui's after and had a good lesson on the Plan of Salvation. He really wants to be with his family forever, and he mentioned again about taking the pay cut to get Sundays off. I know the Lord will bless him if does make that sacrifice. After all, "Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven"
Friday we painted a non-members house for most of the morning. It was a good time and hopefully we can go visit them again this week and share a message, but I have decided to retire from the house painting business, once was enough for me :) That sucked up most of our day, but we still managed to get out and make some visits.
Saturday there was a big ward clean up project. We traveled all around Ocean View, and picked up all the trash at illegal dump sights. It wasn't too messy which was good and there were lots of non-members there to talk to. We set up a teaching appointment for tomorrow with someone, so that was cool. :)
Yesterday was absolutely the best day of the week, hands down. :) We had 3 investigators at church. Alona who is going to be baptized, and then Candice, who is an eternal investigator that just needs to get married and she will be set. We haven't seen her in a while so it was good to see her coming again. The 3rd's name is Max he has been coming for the last couple weeks with his girlfriend in the ward. Last week we set him up for a lesson this week after church, which we did and it went great. He commited to be baptized. :) We didnt get to set a date because he will be moving to Laie with Leah (the Girlfriend) to attend BYU-H. He said he was already planning on meeting the missionaries in Laie once he gets there, so they will probably be the ones to do the baptism. He is such a good guy, I hope all continues to go well in the coming weeks for him. He already has a huge testimony that Heavenly Father knows him personally and loves him, which is always a good start. :) That night we had a stake meeting about receiving revelation, and the importance of it. Before the meeting, we were still 3 O.Y.M.'s (Open your mouth) short of our goal of 50 for the week. These are what we call street contacts, I think they used to be called Golden Questions or something like that for those of you R.M.'s from back in the day. ;) During the meeting I just felt such a strong need to go out after and get the 3 we needed. The meeting got over around 7pm which is right about the time town shuts down here, because the sun goes down and there are no street lights or anything. We ended up going out and knocking the first 3 doors we found, and they were the best 3 contacts we had all week! It was such a testimony to me that we truly can receive revelation, and it is important when we do that we act on it! To cap the night the bishop offered us a good dinner of Kailua Pig. I'm still smiling today from how good yesterday was. We truly are blessed when we strieve to be the best missionaries we can be.
Sounds like things were fun back home. Jake, it sounds like you have had a blast, I'm jealous for sure of all the traveling and swimming. Mom, I bet you are getting your fair share of teh Aloha Spirit with all the time you spend in Hawaii haha. Dad sounds like the reunion was a success and you had a good time just chillin in G-ville by yourself. It was good to here from El Paso, and that you are starting to hit your stride there Natalie. And George it sounds like the Camp out was a good time, I bet its nice to have the whole family back in Kaneohe. To answer your question George, I told President Dalton you guys lived there the first day I was in Hawaii. At that point it had already been decided I was headed to Ka'u, but he said he wouldn't stop me from coming there if that's what Heavenly Father wanted, so who knows.
Well that is what is new here. I always love to here from you guys. I hope my blog is doing well, and the pictures got put on facebook. :) I love you and ALOHA :)
Love, Elder Tripp
