Hey all,
Things were great again this week. Saturday was as great as I thought it would be. Looks like Utah is now 4-0 on baptism weeks so that's good to hear, maybe a minor blessing of missionary work. ;) Max's baptism was awesome I am so happy for him, he is going to be such an awesome member, too bad he will be back in Oahu for at least as long as I am hear in Ka'u, but hopefully I will run into him a few more times over the course of the remaining 17 months I have left. I don't know if it is going to fast for you guys, but man time is flying out here I can't believe 3 of the 17 transfers of my mission are already over. Almost 18% crazy stuff. Thanks for the newspaper articles about Grantsville, sounds like it was a wild one, but good to hear they pulled it out and took care of business against NS this weekend. I did notice that Hurricane and JD potentially play in the semis so at least there will be some variety in the championship game this year. Things are still looking good investigator wise. We still have some baptismal dates for the last week of this transfer so hopefully those get more solid as we get closer to them and we pick up a few more.
Tuesday after our last district meeting of the transfer we headed home and followed up with the Nazaire family, they were the Filipino family we had tracted into the Sunday before. We brought by a Book of Mormon in Tagalog, They speak them Tagalog and Illicano, so we weren't sure which one they would prefer, They seemed more to the Tagalog preference so that is what they took. Sister Nazaire insisted that we stay for dinner, and so we did. It was grilled and steamed fish. Maybe tuna, but I'm not real sure. She plopped down a big fish head, but that was for her dad and luckily not us, but it might have been cool to try just for the experience ha ha you know living a little?
Wednesday we had some great visits with less actives and they let us set up return appointments, which was awesome. Some even came to church yesterday which is always a exciting to see commitments. Naboa's fed us like usual. It is such a small world. Mrs Bleazard sent me a letter this week that mentioned that her parents had served in Ka'u and some of the people were still around probably (including the Naboa's) It was cool that Naboa's have a picture of them hanging on their wall. They had a huge impact on brother Naboa joining the church and going through the temple. I am so grateful for all the wonderful missionaries that have come before us here in Ka'u that have helped make the work easier for us.
Thursday we had our usual week plan and then had a pad inspection so that kinda soaked up a bunch of our day, we still got out and contacted a few people on the street and had a good dinner with members that night.
Friday we spent prepping the baptismal font and stuff for the baptism. One of these days I'll send home a picture of the baptismal font here. Basically it is just a little class room sized area, and the baptismal font has carpeted panels over the top, but bugs and stuff get underneath and so we always have to clear them out before baptisms. That afternoon we headed up to visit the Taetuna clan with Pule. He is always excited to come out with us, and he was called as a ward missionary this week so he was excited about that, although we still don't have a ward mission leader so that makes things a little tricky.
Yesterday we had a "Sandwich Sunday" which is always fun. everybody brings sandwiches to share and stuff after church. It is a great way to meet the ward and introduce them to investigators and stuff.
My shoes ripped this week so today I bought some shoes at Ross for $40 I hope that was ok. Humble living is an over statement for Ocean View it has really helped me be humble and be thankful for all I have been blessed with. Its good to hear that all my friends are doing well and that things in Deseret Peak ward are doing good. :) I love you all. Thanks for everything and as always ALOHA!!!
Love, Elder Tripp
