Hey Family! How's it over there on mainland, or I guess O'ahu for the Hawaiians?
This week seemed to be a usual week of missionary work, although we ended up teaching 21 lessons to investigators, less actives, and recent converts, which is a new record for me. It went pretty smooth I would say.
Monday, we spent our Pday up in Hilo. We just played pool and basketball and chatted. It was nice to just hang out.
Tuesday, was district meeting and then we all went to Pizza Hut lunch Buffet after. The food was really good and definitely worth the $8 since its like 7 for a combo meal at mcdonalds. We went to our usual visits in Pahala, which included Bill & Winona. They are still slowly coming along. We have a chapel tour set up this week with them and hopefully it will finally get the ball really rolling with them.
Wednesday we went up and taught all of Pule's family. We went to all his family that we are currently teaching, and then he took us to about 3 more houses where we either taught or set up a time to come back and teach them. He is a great resource to have. We went to dinner at the Naboa's that night and Bro Naboa gave me the skin of a big horn sheep he had shot, so that was cool! I'll probably end up sending it home at some point, but I thought it was a nice gift.
Don't remember to much from Thursday, just did lots of tracting and stuff. It was pretty good though, I guess we helped Bollo feed his Chickens and stuff, (He has about 150) The more we do service with him the more interested he becomes in the Church, so hopefully we are getting closer with him too.
Friday President Dalton flew out for interviews. We have them every other transfer. It is always good to see him, and he always has lots of good advice for me. We are really pushing hard with our ward lists and visiting every less-active seeking referrals. President Dalton's thought is "Members are less actives, because they have non-member friends" I really liked that and it is so true. The stats of the mission show that 60% of member referred investigators are baptized, compared to just 20% of those found on our own efforts, so we are really pushing for that. He also told us so far we have 110 with a baptismal date for October, which if they all go through would be the most Hawaii ever has had in a month, but our goal is 115 so we are still looking for more.
Saturday we had our monthly zone car wash. They get better and better every month. We probably washed about 70 cars which was awesome and it sounded like a lot felt the spirit of the church as they went on the tour and got refreshments. It took up most of our day though. We got home around 7 and just had dinner then called it a night.
Yesterday we taught Gospel principles. It has become such a regular thing that I find myself looking over the lesson each week, just in case the teacher doesn't show up. We taught Tatiyana, who is going to be baptized this Saturday. She is super solid and ready to go, she just needs to be interviewed and then we are good to go. We also talked with Max on the phone, He told us his flight is set and wanted to make sure we were still good to go with his Baptism on the 29th. That was also exciting. Baptisms are for sure my favorite part. The Spirit is always so strong, and it is so cool to see that changes they make in their lives. We also spent a while this weekend teaching Pule. He is so cool, and is really starting to ask questions about the temple and doing temple work for his family. It's a little tough since he doesn't really know how to explain things in English, and I dont understand a ton of Samoan ( I have found I am starting to pick up some from listening to Toafa and Pule talk it so much), but if we talk long enough we can usually understand each other. I am sure going to miss Pule when I leave. I know I was supposed to meet him here. He has taught me so much as we have taught him, and he has such a fire to share the gospel with everyone especially his family.
Good to hear all about home, and that things are going good there. I bet it was fun to have Natalie out for a while. Its great to hear about Grantsville football, although what a bummer for Drew. Thanks for the package. I love the pens :) I bought another cd of pictures today so I will send that home this week hopefully. Thanks for all you guys do I love you all. Au Alofa Oe!! and ALOHA!
Love, Elder Tripp
