Man this week has been sooooo cold!! I kinda feel like a wimp, but
every morning this week it has been under 70 and it feels like it is
freezing! I guess I'm just so used to it being about 80 with a nice
breeze to make it feel perfect. I guess I really shouldn't complain since
it sounds like you got some snow last week, and Toafa told me the high
was like 47 a week or 2 ago when he was in Utah. Hmm it has kind of been
an uneventful week, but there were still some fun and interesting
things.Good to hear my 2 teams took care of business even if LSU was
kinda sloppy. Sad to hear about Grantsville, but it was a good run.
Monday since it was Halloween, we had an all day p-day, but we had
to be inside somewhere, whether at a member or the church or whatever
after 6. We ended up going to Sister Fujikawa's house for dinner, she
grew up in Ka'u and has lots of family in the ward so she was happy to
have us over with the Kea'au Elders. She fed us very well and she always
takes a picture of the Elders that come to her house so I'll see if I
can attach it with this weeks email.
Tuesday, since it was week one we didn't have our usual district
meeting, so we headed up to Ocean View. We met a couple recently moved
from England who are trying to get situated while tracting and they
sounded pretty interested, especially after we offered to do service
with them this week coming up so that is exciting. They are really nice
and hopefully things will move forward with them.
Wednesday the only real thing of note was dinner at the Naboa's which is always fun for sure.
Thursday
was a big service day. We went around and offered service all over
ocean view. There were lots of weeds everyone was more than ready to
have us help pull and stuff. It was pretty fun. After we went to dinner
at L&L and then went to Candice's house to see how she was.
Friday was district meeting and we got some new
Elders. We have one new Elder in our District, and 4 in our zone. Elder
Copier is in our district and he taught Max in Honolulu. He is pretty
cool. He played football at Bingham and BYU he is a pretty cool guy.
Elder Mortenson, who was at the temple when i took out my endowment, is
here too which is cool.
Saturday was pretty laid back, we had a garden service project and then visited Pule and took him out with us to see his family.
Yesterday we had a regional conference, so it was broadcast from Salt Lake to all the members in Hawaii. We had to drive to Hilo since the stake did opening exercises. We also had 4 members of the ward receive the Melchizedek Priesthood after the meeting too which was awesome. It has been so awesome to see all 4 of them really grow in the gospel since I have been here, and Koa is so excited to serve a mission. He went to Utah last week and said it was the best week of his life, he said his dream call is to serve in SLC which i thought was pretty cool. President Eyring, and Elder Ballard both spoke. Elder Ballard gave an awesome talk about Joseph F Smith and all he did for these Islands, and the Church in general. I am really growing to love President Smith since I have been out. I remember before we came to Hawaii and we had some slight confusion over the name "Iosepa". To clarify Iosepa is Hawaiian for Joseph. The colony in Skull Valley was named Iosepa by the Hawaiians to honor Joseph F. Smith, as well as the Canoe at the PCC. President Eyring also gave an awesome talk about the power of prayer. He mentioned a story about him and his brother Ted, who was my chem teacher at the U. It was pretty awesome.
So that was my week for the most part. We only got 102 baptism for November, which was a little short of our goal of 115, but we have now hit 100 3 times in the last 6 months. which is cool since it had only been done 1 time in the last 30 years so the work is definitely going forward. My church shoes are holding up great. It was my Nike's so I am just using them for service now and got some others to run around in and play Basketball. Hope all is well like usual. I love to hear from you guys I Love you! Aloha!!
