Most Fun Day of the Mission Thus Far

Dear Family,

Sorry the letter is getting out so late today. Hope 7 isn't too late. ;) ha ha We went exploring the island in Brother Wade's, who we live with, Jeep. It was a blast for sure. We saw a few Deer, lots of whales jumping in the ocean and some pretty cool look out spots. It was def the best P day activity I have done so far. Ill have to send a few pics home. We left our house about 9 and then went cruising til about 1:30 and then had to clean off all the mud. We headed up to the north side and headed east of Kalaupapa it was pretty cool to be right up against the steep cliffs with the valleys down below. It was a pretty clear morning for the most part, but some fog rolled in here and there and now it is raining pretty hard, but that's good. We need the rain here. Anyway the week has been pretty solid. We have 2 set for baptism on the last Saturday of February so that is exciting. We found 2 new people to teach this week which was also a hit.

So last Monday we did end up roasting the pig which was lots of fun. I got the honors of catching and stabbing the pig, and took a few turn turning it over on the fire. It was a pretty cool experience.

Tuesday we had a great day. we had district meeting in the morning which was super solid. I love our district so much and it makes it that much funner to be here on Molokai having 3 other Elders who are lots of fun. That afternoon we taught 5 lessons to investigators and than 2 more to less active families and than finished it off with a great steak dinner.

Wednesday was a little bit slower, but we still taught 4 lessons including one to Deborah whose last name is not Spendlove, just reminds me of Mrs Spendlove sorry for the confusion. Anyway things went great there. She loves to talk and bore a strong testimony of the Gospel which was exciting, She also got up on Sunday and invited everyone to her baptism at the end of the month. She is solid to say the least. Wednesday night I had somewhat of a sore throat, which seems to be roaming around the whole island, but it cleared up Thursday morning so that was nice.

Sadly this week our streak of tree chopping came to an end. Bro Lenwai and his family were on O'ahu all week so we had to reshedule for this week coming up. I wear slippas everywhere possible including chopping trees although I do try my best to make sure I don't accidentally take off a toe or 2 maybe I should just wear shoes. So Thursday we had a long and I mean long lesson with a new family we had referred to us. They were so "portuge" meaning they can talk forever! ha ha It was good though I think they have a desire to search for something that they feel they are missing in their life so hopefully they will realize it is the gospel. As hard as it is to listen sometimes I have learned that when we truly listen to what they are telling us the spirit can bring to our minds their concerns and what we as missionaries can do to help them receive the gospel.

Friday we were asked by the Apunas to help them with their sale they had to help them and their family pay for a trip to the temple in March. It was a pretty big hit. Sister Apuna's parents made lots of treats and we grilled the short ribs so the lunch plates and the family had lots of old clothes to sale. It was lots of fun. I like getting the opportunities to learn how to cook Hawaiian food. I feel like I am getting decent and would love to show you my stuff when I get home, it just might be a little tricky getting the luau leaf over there. the sale was a hit and they completely sold out of all the food which was more than enough to pay for the trip so that was exciting.

I don't remember too much from Saturday except we are starting to play basketball every Saturday in an attempt to bring some less actives and non members out of the wood work. The other elders kind of through it together last minute, but we ended up having 8 show up 3 being non members so that was exciting hopefully we can get them excited about the gospel and the members can start to bring out their friends. It was some pretty good basketball too which makes it funner for sure.

It was weird to have the Superbowl so early in the day yesterday. It isn't such a big deal here though. We only ran into one house where the Superbowl was on and we didn't stay very long. We ended the week with 29 lessons which was awesome, but I was hoping we could hit 30 so just a slight bummer. Things are great though I love it here and I love the work here I feel so blessed to have served in these 2 areas.

Hope things are still going good there exciting to hear about the jazz and that they aren't too bad. Bummer about Grantsville Basketball I did however get your package on Saturday so that was nice the milk was a nice thought as well. Thanks for all you do and for all your letters and thoughts. I could use some new tooth brush heads for my toothbrush mom. Sorry I didn't realize I needed one until Thursday, and there is no where on the island to buy them, so if you could send a few that would be nice. anyway things are good. The Hawaiians treat us so well. until next week, I love you and ALOHA! Crazy it will be 8 months on Wednesday where did time go?

                                         Love, Elder Tripp
