Another good week again this week. Another baptism this week which is always exciting for me. Yes Jake there are still some trees over here, but due to another hour or two of chopping, plus a pretty big brush fire yesterday there are a few less this week. Just a quick thought about food I have kept forgetting to mention is, believe it or not, Haystacks and Ham and Pineapple pizza are NOT Hawaiian! :) I sure get a kick out of hearing stories from missionaries from here that went to the mainland and the members always want to feed them stuff like that haha. So I guess what I am getting at they would like other food than just Ham and Pineapple. :) Things are awesome though I truly Love it here. Glad the pictures made it home ok.
So Monday we planned to Huli Huli a pig which is like rotisserie style, but Elder Davis had lots of errands to run since it was transfers, and then we had trouble finding the guy who was going to give us the pig so we ended saving it for this week and just hanging with the Apunas for the day. It was a pretty good Pday.
Tuesday we didn't have district meeting since transfers were the following day so we just had a regular day of work. We went to track down Mrs Spendlove of Molokai. we have been trying to teach her for a while, but we could never find out where she lived. We finally talked to her brother and went for a visit. She has been going to the other ward for quite some time, but we have no record of her baptism so Salt Lake told us we could baptize her again. Anyway she is such a cool lady, seriously almost exactly like Mrs Spendlove. She is way excited to have us over and help her get ready for baptism. We set her for the 26 of Feb so that will be something to work towards. That's the big news Tuesday.
Wednesday we got up early to ship Elder Davis back to Oahu on a 6:45 flight. He was pretty sad to go as were we and the members to see him go. He was a great example of how to truly love the people. We then went home caught a few more minutes of sleep and then got ready to go pick up Elder Maughan at 9. We get along great! He is from Monticello and like to play sports so that is nice. After that we did a little street contacting and then visited our investigators.
Nothing too out of the ordinary happened Thursday or Friday except we did help out Bro Lenwai again with his huge trees It has been good especially since he is getting back into the swing of church again. That's always exciting. We also had a little hiccup on Thursday we hit a nail while driving down a dirt road so we had to go get a tire repair down in town which kind of took some time.
Saturday was the Makahiki. It is like the ancient Greek Olympics Hawiian style. In the morning all the elementary and High schools on the island and a few from Maui come over and compete in events like tug of war and arm wrestling and short races like the old Hawaiians would. Seriously the whole island was there which kind of put a hold on the work for the day. We stayed for the morning games and then went and helped the person we live with do some service. After we went to go try and find some people home and in 3 hours found 1 person ha ha. So kinda slow, but we did get to talk to tons of people in the morning which was fun. Definitely something I would like to come back for in the future.
Yesterday we had Iokona's baptism he is a young boy whose family is just getting active again. He asked me to confirm him. I was grateful his middle name was only 18 letters and is pretty easy to remember unlike some haha. It was a great service as usual. I was also asked to speak in sacrament Friday night so that went well I thought. I was asked so speak on Peace and I talked about how the gospel of Jesus Christ brings peace and then shared about Enos and Alma. Those are 2 of my favorite stories of the Book of Mormon. I love Alma 36 especially. Anyway that is what is new here. Thanks for the letter from Hawaii George and Family. The pictures were great especially the "falling car" from Austin. Lucy you are getting awesome at writing I always love your little notes. Can't think of anything more to say, but I hope all is well. Love you all can't wait for next week to hear from you ALOHA!
Love, Elder Tripp
