Well where to begin. Yesterday now takes the cake for the craziest day on the mish thus far. The reason I didn't email yesterday was because we ended up finding out on Friday that Zone Conference was being rescheduled from this coming up Friday to yesterday. This is where the fun begins. So yesterday morning we got up regular time to meet up in Waimea at 8 to be in Honoka'a at 8:30 for Zone Conference at 9 anyway we made it to Waimea at 8 and I walked inside their pad and sat down, about 2 min later I felt this pain in my lower back kinda like a cramp. Anyway it never got better but I thought I could make it through zone conference I took some ibuprofen which did NOTHING!! Anyway by 9 I was in choke pain and sweating bullets. I made it for about 45 min before I had to find some relief. I sat on the couch outside for about 10 min until one of the Assistants and Sister Dalton came to check. we QUICKLY decided that I needed to get to the emergency room pronto. So Elder Brinkerhoff and Ence gave me a blessing, jumped in the truck and took me back to Waimea. It was the longest 20 min ride I have ever had. SO we make it there and they ask the most insulting questions like "What seems to be the problem?" or "Rate you pain?" I was happy to give an answer of 8. although I did feel like saying 10. The doctors even surprised me by coming back and gave me something even stronger than Morphine. Anyway so they ran some tests and the problem was diagnosed as a kidney stone. Who knew that one 2mm piece of whatever could cause so much pain, anyway they gave me some prescriptions and advice to drink lots of water, I think I may be done with Soda until further notice :(, and hopefully it will pass one of these days coming up. We managed to still make it back to hear the end of Presidents final remarks of the conference. I was glad to at least have Elder Brinkerhoff and Ence to talk to. I came out with Brinkerhoff and Ence trained him in Hilo back in the day so I was good to talk for a bit through the whole ordeal. We also got to share a bit with one of the nurses she said she has never been baptized or anything but she was thinking of it lately so we got her address. She lives in Kona so maybe things will work out. There were about 4 senior couples at zone conference and it seems like all of them have had them before and all their advice was "buckle up its worse than child birth."... I guess we will see. I wouldn't mind a prayer or 2. Anyway I am doing fine right now and other than that it was a solid week. I love it here.
So Tuesday last week didn't have district meeting can't remember why it got moved to Friday but it did. So anyway we stayed out in Waikaloa and had a good day of visits. That night we had a missionary correlation meeting, which was by far the most productive one I have had on my mission. I think it was the 1st time someone besides us and the Ward Mission Leader. Anyway it was nice to have some ward missionaries and representatives from the quorums and auxiliaries to help with planning fellow shipping and what not. while I am thinking of it mom Elder King is still in the Samoan ward and Elder Bleazard was in Waimea 2nd ward up here.
So Wednesday we had a good lesson again with a guy named Todd. We taught him my first day here and he is getting pretty solid. He has some WoW issues but I know he is working hard to over come them. He is just so sincere and wants to learn as much as he can. He read all of Jacob last week and was excited that he read all of a book and seemed to comprehend lots of it even Jacob 5 which impressed me a little. We also met up with some recent converts from the Marshall Islands that were excited to share the gospel with some friends so we went over to talk with them. It looks like we might have some more solid investigators coming up unfortunately they couldn't meet with us last week, but they seem promising
Thursday Seems to be slipping my memory except for we had a good old Haole meal, as they called it, for Haole missionary. ha ha It was roast and mashed potatoes and it was excellent. I don't know if I mentioned last week but Sister Casuga lived in Tooele for a year or 2 growing up so she knew right where Grantsville is. Bishop Casuga is a great guy. I realized I had met him before down at the Funeral for Pule's son way back in my Ka'u days.
Friday we had district meeting. I didn't have to train because the zone leaders had it covered for this week. We talked about finding and looking through our area book for anyone who could possibly be baptized in the next 3-4 weeks. Elder Vaikeli and I found a few name to go check out so hopefully we can get to them this week. Friday afternoon we had a good lesson with Maxx he is 12 and going to be baptized on October 27th .He is ready to go and can't wait for it. It is always exciting to see people get excited.
Saturday was the Iron Man Triathlon. 2.4 miles of swimming a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run to be crowned an Iron man. We didn't find many people home as plenty of locals flee to the Hilo side to avoid all the craziness. The bike part of it comes up past Waimea and around back down to Kona so we saw a few biker pass by through out the day. We went down to Waikaloa resort for dinner. A member took us down there for a nice dinner. That night we went over to Brother McMillans house for dinner. he lives on the Saddle road between Mt Mauna Kea and Mt Mauna Loa. He is a recent convert of 6 months. They own a huge ranch and there house was very nice They had just come back from Utah for Conference it was fun to talk about Utah and all the church history there.
Sunday Church started at 11:30 which I think is a great time to have Church. It was cool to meet more of the ward members who I hadn't met yet. I also ran into Imi and Tatiyanna Meideros. Imi is the friend of ailene Harden and I taught her daughter Tatiyanna back in Ka'u I don't know if you remember back at the reunion mom. Anyway their family has now moved up to the 2nd ward. Small world. Anyway we taught Priest quorum. Bishop is implementing a new plan of having the priests teach lessons out of PMG as companionship due to the new missionary age change. He had us teach the 1st one to give an example of what to do. I felt that it went well.
Anyway well that covers my week. Hope to hear from you again next week. Bummer about Grantsville losing a close one. I made a photo cd today so I will ship it home Tomorrow. Thanks for all your help I love you all!
Love, Elder Tripp
