Once again another week has quickly passed by here in Ka'u. Things are working great. This week was much better than last week. Yeah, that whole bookstore thing probably wasn't the smartest place to visit, but we had to follow up on the referral. Learned a good lesson from it though haha. Anyway Monday we got up super early and went to go hunt down the lava flow into the ocean. Supposedly it had started up again and it was really cool to visit at 5 am. We drove to the spot and found out that the info we had received was false and the lava still isn't flowing yet... Anyway after that we just played basketball in Hilo and visited as a zone one last time before transfer Wednesday.
Tuesday we were looking through our potential investigators list and decided to try and visit a few of them. We found Chris who is 18 and lives in Ocean View. He has heard lots of negative stuff about us from his friends, but he didn't believe they were true. We quickly resolved all of his concerns like Joseph Smith didn't kill 6 men in Missouri. We taught him the restoration and invited him to read 3 ne 27. He let us set up a follow up appoint for Thursday. That night we taught Alona again. Unfortunately we could never find the record of his Dad having the priesthood, so we had to move the baptism back to August 27, since the 20th didn't work for them. He is still doing good and can't wait for his baptism to finally get here. That night the young men young women had an opening of school BBQ. they invited us to come and get dinner, and since we had no one signed up for that day we gladly accepted.
Wednesday always seems to be our busy day. We had lessons with people every hour from 4 to 8. It was a lot of fun We ate at 3 places with, Tui he is still doing his thing I'm starting to worry he isn't really trying but we can't make him get work off, even as much as his dad would love it if we could. Then we had our regular dinner with the Naboa family, and then after that we headed up to the makahanaloa family who are a recent convert family of 9. They insisted we stay for dinner. We ended up getting home around 9:10. It was day of lessons and food.
Thursday we had a follow up with Chris. He said he had read and prayed, and didn't think he had been given an answer, but he said he knew it was because he needed to read more so he said he was going to start from the beginning and go from there. We taught him the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which includes the principles and ordinances of the gospel in the 4th article of faith, with the addition of endure to the end at the end of it. It went really well and during the part about baptism we committed him to baptism and he accept for September 10! :) So that made my day. I don't remember much else from the day, but it was good :)
Friday we had our 1st district meeting of the transfer. They are usually on Tuesday, but the 1st one is always on Friday. It went really good. The Hilo zone has 8 companionships. which include 1 senior couple, the zone leaders, and 3 companionships have Elders that are just 6 weeks in (me, Brinkerhoff, and then Lasitani. who is from Tonga and wasn't in my mtc district), and then the other 3 companionships are all training new elders. So we are pretty young, but its going good. We are seeing lots of miracles in the Hilo Zone, and that must mean we are doing good :) That took up a lot of time, and we went and visited Candice, who still is working towards getting married, but she is trying here best and that's all she needs to do before she can be baptized. She seemed like she was getting closer to marriage, so hopefully something will change there.
Saturday was our service day, since the baptism was changed we didn't have any lessons, so we went and did service for some less actives and sought referrals. We got a few potentials so hopefully this week we will be able to follow up on those. Nothing much else happened
Alona and Candice didn't think to much on it. 5 min really isn't that long to talk so i threw some thoughts together and headed out to ward council at 8. Once we got there it turned out that it wasn't high council Sunday so they needed me to talk for 20 min. Not quite what i signed up for. Anyway at sacrament there we no priests so Elder Wilson and I blessed, than i gave my talk, which i thought went well, it was a pretty easy topic of the Holy Ghost Than to finish up we sang a choir number, and i could finally relax for the rest of the meeting. Overall it was a good experience, and it just helped build my testimony that if we have studied out what we could talk about the Holy ghost will fill our mouths when the time comes to give the talk. Sunday afternoon we visited lots of less actives and helped build there faith. Also at church Chris and Alona and Candice were all at Sacrament! Which was awesome. :) It gets the Ward excited when they see us with investigators, so hopefully they will bring us some referrals :)
Today since we are kinda over on our miles so far this month, we are just hanging out here in town. We just played some basketball with bishop and few of his friends which was lots of fun. Hope all is well in Grantsville. Its good to hear about all the good things going on especially in Deseret Peak ward. I Loved the article about region 11 football. Especially the quote from Stansbury! :) Humble Pie was served.... enough said :)
Anyway all is well here I always love your emails on Mondays :) Love you all
Aloha, Elder Tripp
