Just Another Week

Hey everybody it is your favorite missionary once again ha ha.

Mom, sorry I thought I answered all of your questions, but yes we can print out emails, articles are always accepted to read on down time. :) and for my birthday I can't really think of anything I really need, I guess I have been craving some cookies and cream poptarts if you want to send some of those. :) and maybe a dark green paisley tie would be kinda cool, but other than that there is nothing I can really think of wanting or needing.

Anyway good to hear from everyone this week. It is always nice to find the computer Monday and see emails from you guys. Dang it seems like Wasatch always just finds a way to sneak it out. Dad, did you mean to say Tooele beat Ben Lomond 45-3, instead of the other way around. Jake I also enjoyed your email thanks for not spoiling any movie plots that I may want to see when I come home, sounds like you are keepin life real up there in SLC.

I can't remember if I mentioned last Monday that we just hung around Ka'u last Monday to make sure we had enough miles in our car for the rest of the month We get 2000 a month and we are at about 1300 with 2 trips to Hilo and back the rest of the month, so just to be careful we decided to only drive to our dinner appointment about 10 miles away. SO we just went down to the park and played basketball with some members which I thought was pretty fun, but not as fun as with the other missionaries.

Tuesday got up and headed to District meeting in Hilo. It's one of my favorite parts of the week to catch up with the zone and all learn together how we can be better missionaries. We all headed for lunch at KFC. It was pretty good, I'm finding out I really like fried chicken out here. It is a common meal with members, and I never get tired of it. Especially because I know exactly what it is, unlike some of the other things I have encountered thus far. A new L&L restaurant opened in Ocean View, so after hanging around in Pahala visiting lots of less actives and our 2 investigators Bill and Winona, we met The Antolins (members) for dinner there. Let me tell ya, it has created a monster inside me. The food is so good and reasonably cheap. I'm excited to know that there are L&Ls in West Jordan, and Provo, and possibly somewhere else in Utah, so when I come home I can still find it. :)

Wednesday we were back in Ocean View  visiting more less actives. It was kind of the goal this week to work on the less actives in the ward and help them come back to church. I feel we were pretty successful. We taught 13 lessons in their homes and about 6 came to church yesterday, so that was nice to have success that way. Also, we taught Chris, he is the one who accepted baptism for the 10th of September, but he still hasn't come to church so we are going to have to push it back it looks like. He was too sick to have a lesson Saturday so I'm hoping the reason he missed church was he was still sick. He is so solid and has the desire to start reading scriptures. Hopefully he keeps it up and can come unto Christ. For dinner that night we ate again at L&L :)

Thursday we went back to Pahala and visited more less actives. We had some great lessons, and The spirit was especially Powerful at Bill and Winona's house. They told us again how much they love having us in their house because of the peace that comes. We testified of the Spirit and they can have that Spirit with them all the time when they are baptized. It was awesome, when at the end of the lesson they said "Don't be surprised if one of these coming weeks we show up to your congregation" It sounds like Winona has some medical problems that make it kind of awkward to leave the home for so long, but I think they are coming to realize the need for church regardless of our weaknesses. :)

Friday we spent most of our day painting that house that you saw pictures of. This was the 3rd time we had been there and it looks like we still have a couple hours of work left. Auntie Chris wanted to tag us in her facebook pictures, so I gave my password to To'afa (Elders Quorum President) to add me as a friend to him, and then he would tag me, so it sounds like he did it and you saw the pictures. I have come to know that house painting is not the field I want to go into for a career. I will officially retire from house painting on Friday after we finish up. It was a good experience to fellowship auntie Chris and maybe one day she begin to investigate. She has family that are members, so hopefully when she lives with them in Oregon she will be more receptive to it. She is moving there as soon as she sells the house, that is why we are painting it. I think this has really helped plant some seeds in her heart. :)

Yesterday was more of the same, he felt well enough to go to church, but after that he fell asleep, and seemed really weak and had an upset stomach. I enjoyed the extra time to read from The Book of Mormon. It truly is the most correct of all books on this Earth. It always leaves me uplifted, with more desire to go out and share it with the World. He is feeling lots better today so that's positive. :)

This weekend there were reports that Hurricane Fernando would be coming so I was pretty excited to experience my 1st storm. Unfortunately (or Fortunately depending on how you want to look at it) Thursday it became a tropical storm, and Friday the report was it would pass 20 miles south of South Point around Monday afternoon. We got some clouds but no wind or rain :( Its clear skies today. I'm kinda bummed but I guess it's good no harm came upon anyone here.

So that's whats New in Ka'u. Alona's baptism is set for this Saturday, and it is solid. His dad got the Priesthood yesterday so it should be a go. I'm sure I love your letters and emails as much as you love mine so keep them coming. :) Hope all is well where ever you may be.

ALOHA,
Love, Elder Tripp
