One Last Email for August

Hey everybody!

Thanks for the Emails and letters this week it always makes things that much better. Last week was great especially to cap it off with Alona and Marrianna's baptisms. Thanks for all the newspaper articles. It was good to at least catch up on how camp for Utah went. I'm kinda bummed about missing the next 2 seasons, but there will be plenty more football in the years to come after I'm back so that's good :). Anything new with the big 12? sounds like they are about ready to fall. Disappointing to hear about Grantsville, but the season is still young hopefully they can get things turned around.

Monday was pretty good. We just hung around being lazy for the most part. We had dinner at the Tayamens as usual which was great.

Tuesday we drove had our usual district meeting, but because the stake center was being fumigated, it was moved to the Pahoa church, which is on the eastern tip of the island about 20 min from Hilo.
It was a good meeting, on having good companionship unity and working together in lessons better. It isn't something Elder Wilson and I really struggle with, but it was a good refresher and good practice. After that we hurried home to do the interview for Alona, and then had dinner at L&L with his family. That night the youth had a combined activity and asked us to share a message about how they could help us do missionary work in the ward. I thought it went pretty good and of course the food was good after :).

Wednesday morning, we hung around Naalehu and visited a few investigators, before lunch. They are doing pretty good. They are going really slow, but at least it is still progression. After, we headed up to Ocean View. Our other investigator with a date stood us up again, so that was kinda disappointing, hopefully we can get back in there soon and get him going again. Wednesday night we had Egg rolls and some other kinds of sushi, with this Kimchi and Soy beans for dinner. For sure not my favorite things to eat, but I decided before coming I was going to eat everything that was put on my plate. Somehow I managed to get it all down. Whatever doesn't kill me just makes me stronger right?

Thursday we headed to the other side of the Area in Pahala. We found a new investigator and taught 3 lessons which was a huge blessing. We are really trying to jump start that part of the area, but it is a tough town, with lots of other religions. Hopefully this was a step in the right direction. We didn't have dinner that night, and if we would have had the extra miles, I would have voted for L&L, but instead we just picked up some frozen pizza's at the grocery store and called it good there as well.

Friday we finally finished painting that yellow house. It took us til 2 to do it, but I'm so glad it is finally done!! Edge work was for sure the worst part of the whole thing, but it was a great experience for Chris to see that our church does lots of service for others. The other blessing that came from it was, we had asked a kid named Koa to come with us to paint. He is less active, but his grandparents are great members in the ward. Anyway through helping us paint and just us inviting him to come to church has really helped him get reactivated. Yesterday he got received the Aaronic Priesthood, and Friday as we were driving home from painting, he told us he is going to serve a mission in March when he turns 19! I was so shocked and excited, it was good I wasn't driving or we may have crashed. ha ha That was for sure a great miracle!

Saturday was the baptism of Alona who is 9, and his little sister Marianna who just turned 8. They are Pule Taetuna's great grandkids, and Miracle's (who was baptized last month) cousins. It was an awesome service. Their older sister gave the talk about baptism, and their mom talked about the Holy Ghost, and bore her testimony about how grateful she was her family was finally coming back to church and that they could have the priesthood in her home. She was also thankful for the choice Miracle made last month that led to her kids getting baptized as well. The Spirit was so strong during the whole thing. While they were getting changed, we showed the last 10 minutes of the restoration dvd, which went good as well. After they invited everyone up to their house for Dinner. It was great Lau Lau, Kailua pig, Ribs, and salad, and lots of it. I was so good!! Some how I have still managed to maintain my weight, even with all the food I have been fed the last 2 months. Elder Fisher, the old zone leader, and my best friend called that night to see how I was.  I'm sure gonna miss him when he goes home in 3 weeks. haha we joked about how he will probably be married with kids when I get home, or else we could room together at the U.

Sunday was the confirmations, and church went pretty smooth we had 4 investigators attend the meeting and feel that sweet Spirit, so that was awesome. :) The gospel principles teacher didn't show up, so we were tasked with teaching that class. It was on Eternal Marriage, which wasn't the easiest thing for 2 single guys to teach, but I thought it went pretty well and we had lots of great comments from the class which helped it go smooth. We visited some less actives and part member families and then had dinner at Bishops to end the night

Today we are going into Hilo for an oil change on our car, and then to play basketball with the Elders, which I'm super excited for because we haven't done that the last 2 weeks. It should be a good time even though a lot of the better Elders have been transferred.

That's whats new here. It's crazy my birthday is already here, Time sure is flying. Thanks everybody for the testimony's and clips from the conference talks. Mom, Dad, and Jake have a great time at the  Utah game, do a few 3rd down jumps for me! :) I assume it should be an easy win this week. Natalie, Keep it real down South, well up north from me ha ha. Not sure if you know this, but Texas Western, the school in Glory Road, is renamed UTEP haha. Hope the Hawaiians are doing well too. Sounds like everyone is doing great. I love you guys. ALOHA!
                                                                          Love, Elder Tripp
