Aloha my family,
Well I never quite thought this time would come, but I am finally leaving Molokai and headed to somewhere on Oahu. We got notice a little earlier than usual because Elder Robbins was called to receive a special assignment for his new companion that is coming. Not really a shock, but I was hoping to stay longer. I know I have been here for a while, but It just feels so much like home it's hard to leave. For sure the worst part of missionary work. Anyway I guess we will see where the new area is. I have kinda been feeling like I am going to haleiwa, in the Mililani zone, or somewhere around there, but my preference would be to serve in one of the Samoan wards. Where ever I am sure it will be a learning process.
Glad your vacation went good Mom, Glad to hear you got your fill of some Filipino dessert. I enjoy both of those as well especially when they put chocolate in the banana lumpia. I look forward to seeing Elder Hudson and Lepule Wednesday at the transfer meeting. Elder Hudson and I did get along great in the MTC. Elder Lepule called a week or 2 ago to give us a referral and he mentioned how much he loves Cole and his fat cheeks. We actually went to a baby party as well this week. They sure are crazy, glad to hear Cole's wasn't too crazy.
Not much interesting happened Tuesday, just a few visits and getting things together to go to Maui on Wednesday. We ended up having dinner at the pack meeting down at the church since our dinner for the night was the cub master. It was kinda fun to remember the fun days of cub scouts with the Becky and Pat Price. They always had fun and interesting things to do, compared to just regular learning.
Wednesday was zone conference in Maui, and crazy as always. We woke up at 4 to catch the boat at 5. I guess there were strong wind warnings in effect, but we didn't get the memo since we don't watch TV and not like it really would have changed our plans, but the ocean was crazy. The swells were huge and the boat was rocking every which way. It wasn't pleasant at all, but at least I didn't get sick like the others. It was nice to finally get to Lahaina. We stopped and grabbed a quick little bite at Walmart and then headed upcountry Maui to the Pulehu chapel. Apparently it isn't the 1st church in Hawaii, but it is near the spot where the 1st baptisms were and has been around since the early 1900's. There are also Memorials to George Q Cannon and Jonnathon Napella there. It was a special spirit there. Zone Conference was planned to get over at 3:30, but went long like usual and wrapped up around 5:15 learning from last time that we wouldn't make back to Lahaina in time we ended up going with the Pukalani Elders for the night and then we as well as Lanai all stayed in the Zone leaders apartment in Kahului.
Thursday we got home around 9:30 or so and got ready did our studies and then weekly planned. We got done around 4 so that took a lot of the day. We still managed to teach a lesson. That night was Seminary graduation. I was surprised to see President Bauer from the Hilo stake. He is over the seminary program for the Islands. He told me he had been released in March and was now going to serve a mission to Turkey which sounds pretty exotic. Good to see him and remember my days on the Big Island. The graduation dinner after was all out like things usually are here. Roast pork and a ton of sides. I sure will miss all the good food, but it is probably good if I don't want to buy new pants. I jumped on the scale the other day and it said 250. I am sure Apuna's will want to get an official weigh in before I leave. ha ha
Friday we headed out west end to visit everyone out there. We found nearly everyone home which was good. That night was another ward pot luck. The scouts were doing a Kalua Pig sale to help pay for their scout camp. It was fun to help do one more pig before I left. They were camping out so they could wake up early to pull it out so we didn't see that part, but we did get to eat some and it was great. Nothing like some good Hawaiian salted pork.
Saturday was kinda slow. Not a ton of people home since it was the weekend. We did help do some service for some people and visited some good less actives before dinner. After we played basketball and got some investigators out to that so that was positive.
Sunday was good. we had a child of record baptism and a good sacrament meeting. The Kaholoa'a spoke they have been an awesome family to get to know. They spoke about the worth of souls. They are great at singing and sang a song called I'll find you my friend." it brought the spirit nicely. The baptism was for one of our part member families. It was a great service. We had 4 other investigators attend as well which was nice.
Today we had a memorial day flag raising ceremony, and then we played flag football afterward. It was good to see lots of the ward and let them know I would be leaving so I would come around today and tomorrow. Apuna's fed us lunch and we are eating there tonight as well. I am so grateful for all they have done for me these past 6 months. I hope all is going well for everyone back home. I thought it was just your brothers that you had to worry about stealing your things while you are on your mission, but it looks like Natalie is enjoying a pair of my shorts. ;) ha ha its cool Glad things went well with the flowers. Hope all gets back to normal this week. I love all yall. Thanks for every thing. ALOHA!
Love, Elder Tripp
