Talofa Family!
Wamaioe? A'u Manwia. How are you? I am fine. Things have been pretty crazy over here in Moana Lua 2nd. I would have mentioned in my email where I was headed, but I didn't know until President called Monday night to inform me I was white washing in. Then at Dinner was when Sis Apuna sent the text. Hope it didn't wake you up. It has been quite an adjustment, but it has been nice to not have really specific boundaries, so we can go find Walmart or whatever and get to see a little more of the island headed to visits. There aren't any set boundaries, but there are also Samoan wards in Waipahu, where Elder Lepule went, and Makakilo side somewhere so we don't go there much, but if we get a referral for over there we can go teach it. My new companion is Elder King. He is 25 from slc kinda shy and timid, but we are getting along ok. He is Palongi as well so it has been a little tricky finding out Samoan people with neither of us knowing much just a few phrases. The ward is great though it is where I want to be if I can't be on Molokai. I feel blessed to have been in 3 great areas. The work is slow here right now the teaching pool went kinda dry. I assume that's why the white washed happened. There is a lot of potential though so that is exciting.
Monday was ok. We had dinner at the Apuna's with all the extended family and what not. It was lots of fun. I taught FHE with what I call "The Doctrine of Christ Obstacle Course" it was kinda in a book of lessons I saw, but I tweaked it a little. It covers Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. I thought it went well.
Tuesday was spent mostly saying goodbye to people. I mailed some things home so sounds like they made it. I sent home my Samoan triple combination Pule gave me thinking that I would not need it and didn't want to pack it. you don't need to send it back I have another. I didn't know it was a Samoan ward until sister Apuna informed me after you sent a text back to her. I was pretty excited to find that out. We had dessert one last time and took some pictures and things Tuesday night. It was pretty sad for me to leave, but it didn't truly hit me until Wednesday night. They are such an awesome family I can't wait to save up money and head back to visit them!
Wednesday morning Elder Maughan and I were up and running to catch a 7:00 plane. It went smooth although the missionaries forgot to pick us up so we waited a little extra at the Airport. It was nice to see all my old mission friends at the transfer meeting. I sat next to Elder Hudson and Copier who are probably my 2 best friends in the mission. I also saw Elder Toone and a few others. Seems like Elder Toone is in Waipahu somewhere, but I can't remember. Elder Hudson seems to be doing well over in Kaneohe. I talked with Elder Lepule. He mentioned how much he loves Cole and the family. So because of some weird events after transfer meeting we had some basic directions how to get to our house with no phone and no gps. I guess the elders leaving took them to the airport and then gave them to someone who wasn't at the meeting. It was pretty crazy being kinda alone in the big city with a few directions to somewhere you have never been. I know it was the spirit that helped guide us and get us back on our feet in Honolulu. We live in Salt Lake. Thought that was kinda fun. Anyway we went around and met our ward mission leader. He is a lot like Pule so that is lots of fun. Wednesday night I was missing Molokai some, but I guess that's part of missionary work. I'm sure I'll get back sometime.
Thursday and Friday have kind of ran together so I can't really pick out certain events. I do know we found some good investigators and one with a date but not til July because they are going to Texas for a month. That was a success. We spend a lot of time in Kunio Park Terrace. It is kinda the ghetto, but lots of humble Samoans live there and they are so hospitable and loving. They always make sure to give us a snack and some juice. Dinners have been huge. Molokai for sure has prepped me though. The food just comes and we just have to eat it. They cook great though so that's positive.
Saturday was smooth we made some good visits in the morning and saw some good success. After Dinner we ended up heading to Kaneohe and Kailua to visit some former and potential investigators the Elders before were teaching. We got a return appointment with a couple so that is great. We also happened to drive past where I got my mission call and a few other places on that street.
Church was excellent. I didn't understand a ton of Sacrament or Elders Quorum, but Sunday school we go with the YSA and they speak lots of English so that was good. I did prepare a little testimony in Samoan. I probably sounded pretty Palongi (White) but I think I got my message across. I love singing in Samoan. They just put all their heart into it. Today we just went to Costco. Elder King has a card so that is nice. We have a pretty nice pad which is nice as well and a great blessing.
Well I know this church is true. I am excited to be serving here. Crazy that Friday is the big year mark, although the 10th is probably the real hump day since my last transfer meeting will be the 12th and I'll probably fly home on the red eye on the 13th if plans go like they do right now. We get to go to the PCC and swap meet and stuff. Anyway A'u Alofa Outou! I Love you All! Aloha and Tofa se fua! Goodbye have a nice day. or something like that.
Love, Elder Tripp
