Aloha Family,
Things have gone by really well this week. Not quite sure what it was but it just feels good. Once again Transfers were crazy with last minute flights being scheduled at Midnight Tuesday night. It didn't directly affect me except my district was cut down some due to an elder being emergency transferred down to Elder Bleazards old stomping grounds at the bottom of Kona side and being called district leader so they took a companionship and the senior couple from my district and put them in his.
Tuesday we spent saying goodbye to a few people and then headed down to Kona to stay with the Zone leaders. As always it was good to just hang with Elder Carrel.
Wednesday I woke up while there was some noise of the people getting ready to pack up final things and go. I fell back asleep and nobody decided to wake me up so I just slept right on through til 6:30. I woke up realizing that people were gone. I was the only one in the living room and curious as if everyone had left. It was crazy kinda like one of those Home alone moments. As my investigation continued I found Elder Carrel in his room but other than that everyone was gone to the airport. Anyway my new companion came in around 9:30 his name is Elder Ukenio. Ew like yuck, Ken like Barbie's boy friend, and Yo like whats up man. That is the proper pronunciation. He is a good kid. Dad you are right we come from super different backgrounds, believe it or not Kitabus doesn't share much in common with Utah. He is awesome though so humble and he tries so hard to learn English and be a good missionary. I am excited with how things are turning out. I do feel like I talk more than I want to in lessons, but he strives to put together thoughts and I am sure he will become a super elder one day. I feel like he would probably really enjoy a Christmas Package if that isn't too much to ask. Not sure what he wants but I'll figure that out. needless to say I am so excited.
Thursday was our inspection day. We had various people from the apartments coming to inspect and replace things. We are now under new management and what not so they are replacing everyone's lights on the lanai, and we are getting a new refrigerator and a few other things. We didn't get too much missionary work in but I took my companion to meet some ward members and we ended at dinner up with McMillans. We got talking about Grantsville and where dad works and what not and when they heard US Mag they kinda perked up. I guess when they stay in Idaho for the summer they are neighbors with Mike Legg and know them pretty well so they said if you see him or talk to him tell him Hi.
Friday was district meeting down in Kona. The Zone leaders did most of the training and we mostly just set goals for the Month of December. I feel like it should be a good month for us. Elder Ukenio relates pretty well with all the other Micronesian people we have kinda investigating the church, even though they speak different languages they are a lot similar in Culture and I think it helps him feel at least a little more comfortable. We have heard reports there are a few others from Kitabus around in the neighbor hood so we are on the watch for them. That afternoon we visited some recent converts and are still working on Maxx's older brother who should be baptized shortly we just got to get him to set a solid date.
Saturday we had a few more repairmen come in the morning and then went to clean the chapel in the afternoon. It was a great turn out and work went smooth. After we taught a lesson with Todd. We haven't been able to meet with him lately but he has come to church the past few Sundays so that has been positive.
Sunday there was a sad mood over the ward. I could just sense that something wasn't right, but I just shrugged it off until Bro McMillan asked if we had heard about the Oregon game. He mentioned it was a heart breaker. I would say there are about 50 or so people with ties to Oregon in the ward and they all love the ducks, plus the QB is from St Louis High in Honolulu so that gets extra support from all Hawaiians. Bro McMillan of course played for Oregon way back when. No worries though they are all on the Manti Te'o wagon now. Can't imagine how it will be when they lose as well this week. The classes were excellent though. They just started a Marshallese gospel principles class to help our investigators and recent converts that are Marshalesse. Elder Ukenio seemed excited to go to that so we split and I went to the English one.
Glad to hear O'ahu is treating you well over there. Jake glad things are well with the house sounds like fun. Glad the work is going good in Kaneohe. I think Elder Hall is an awesome elder he's pretty cool. Anyway sorry it is kinda short hope Thanksgiving is excellent! We have Lunch and Dinner set up so I am excited about that. Thanks for all the support I love you guys and ALOHA!
Love, Elder Tripp
