Tripp Family, Talofa!
Happy to say that this week was the best I have had so far in the area. Lots of excitement is going on in the ward and the mission and things just seem to be gelling. I enjoyed your letters, especially Jakes' report on the Harden Reunion. I feel like that is one thing that hasn't been a sacrifice ;) jk but sometimes they are kinda boring for the cousins kids who are a whole generation younger than anyone else it seems like. Anyway we had some great success this week. We officially have 2 with a baptismal date for the end of August and one unofficial baptism that could take place as early as this Saturday but most likely in a week or 2 so that is good. Last I heard the Mission was sitting on 122 for the Month of July on Saturday night 3 short of our goal, but still 14 more than the mission has ever had as far as President Dalton can see. Our zone currently has 21 with a date set for August so we are hopeful to set a new high water mark of 18 and get a steak dinner with President Dalton. :) Glad Pioneer day was good, I guess there was a fireside supposed to be broadcast here last Sunday but it was postponed until further notice so who knows with that. Anything exciting happen with the Olympics yet?
Anyway Tuesday was pretty typical for most of the day at 5 we had a lesson with Darianne, she is the 11 year old with the unofficial date. We set it for the 4th with her, but her grandparents who she lives talked to us yesterday and thought they should just make sure it is alright with her Mom who is in the Mainland somewhere before going through with it, probably a wise thing to do, I am sure everything will work out for the better in the end.
Wednesday we get our momentum swinging forward with another great lesson with Sister Niumata we have been teaching her the past couple weeks. We talked about commandments and showing our faith, and she told us she was ready to take the steps her and her family need to take to be together forever. She set her own date for her and her son on the 25th of August :) Later that night we had a family night lesson and dinner with a family. Their name is the Pologa family. Grandma Pologa is like our Grandma and she is always trying to figure out what we need and want to eat for lunches and breakfast etc.. This time she was pretty clever. Before we came over the family had made a plan that for the 1st part of the lesson everyone would write there favorite meal for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The lesson was about sacrifice and thinking about giving up your very favorite things, anyway unknown to us the family had all written the same thing on their paper so they would know what stuff Elder King and I put. Needless to say they loaded us up with Groceries for a bit. Pretty creative I must say. :)
Thursday the big event was it was a back to School ward activity of Volleyball Basketball etc. It was a blast and there was so many nonmembers there the YM YW really stepped up for us. We had a big table set up with all sorts of Pamphlets and stuff and we sat behind it when we weren't playing. Of course there was lots and lots of food and Cocoa Samoa which is really good hot chocolate. Unfortunately we only could stay until 9 instead of 12 like everyone else.
Friday we had another mini missionary with us. No joke he literally looked like Lloyd on Dumb and Dumber, perfectly. Bowl cut and everything. He was a little bit different but I he seemed to have a great time and hold us up too much. It was a snow day though so that is always kinda boring when nobody is home.
Saturday I went on Exchange with Elder Bailey in Pearl Ridge. He is a cool guy and we have somewhat similar interests. We had appointments to go see up at the very top of his area in Aiea Heights which was quite a long walk. For sure grateful that I don't have to walk around all day everyday. Although I do kinda like the exercise part of walking around. We had some good lessons He was excited the night before they had found someone to be baptized which is exciting because it would be the 1st of the year for the ward. For dinner someone took us to get Prime Rib and Sizzler. Super nice of them! Hawaiian People are so awesome.
Yesterday I gave a 5 min talk with my Testimony in Samoan. I read it over to Elder Lepule the night before to make sure it sounded ok and that I didn't say anything crazy he said it sounded good and helped me find a few more of the filler words like of and the to make it sound more smooth. I think it went well. anyway funny story this guy was visiting and wanted us to go visit his friends after Church So we went over and The guy was like " You said you wanted the church to pray for you so we did one better and brought these guys" They seemed very startled and when we sat down they walked out and drove away ha ha. The guy tried to call them and have them come back but they didn't answer. Kinda funny how they just left us in their home all alone. Anyway I love you all thanks for everything. Mom I'm probably still good with Medicine for this month but I'll let you know. Also Natalie my CD you made for me disappeared around transfer time I assume another Elder took it. Could you send me another, but include into he fire from scarlet Pimpernel. That would be awesome! Thanks for everything Alofa Ia te Outou and Aloha!!
Love, Elder Tripp
