Set for Round 2 with the Samoans

Hey all, Talofa!

Well I am glad that Wednesday was my last 4th of July in Hawaii, as the Hawaiians would say Junk Dat! I guess it wasn't bad it just isn't like good old Gville. We did get to see some fireworks which was on the positive side I guess. Thanks Mom I noticed that it got updated last week, I wasn't sure what the deal was so I was going to ask this week, glad you are a step ahead. Sounds like the BBQ was Samoan style. Choke grinds for everyone. This week was pretty good. Transfer calls were last night. Crazy how fast this transfer blew by. Elder King and I are staying together. I was kinda hoping I would get to be with Elder Lepule here, but it sounds like he is going somewhere else. Our zone is getting half white washed so that will be interesting I guess, hopefully get some familiar faces in the zone.

Anyway Tuesday was a pretty slow day, We had our transfer pad inspection which went fine, but took a good part out of the day since they were an hour behind schedule. After I ended up heading on an exchange for the night. We taught a good lesson with a less active member in Pearl Ridge.

Wednesday we were to work until 5 and then be to the pad in Pearl Ridge overlooking Pearl Harbor for the night. We ended up catching lots of people home. It seems like a lot of people here just take the day as a vacation from work, and maybe have a BBQ. Especially in the Samoan community. We did get to a few BBQs though and had some good food. I especially enjoy the Otai. It is a watermelon drink with watermelon and coconut juice and milk. I could drink it all day. We got together with the zone at 5. Everybody brought snacks to share for "dinner" It was a good time. It rained lightly most of the day, but we still saw some fireworks around various parts of the island which was fun. I remember last year was my 1st Pday in Hawaii.

Thursday we spent a little time working on making a big map of our area. We found a map book of Oahu and have been taping the different maps together to make one big one we can put on our wall and mark where everyone lives. Probably going to be a little too organized for me but Elder King has this grand vision of it so I guess I'll follow along. That afternoon we had an awesome lesson with a recent convert named Sapati. He is so solid. He bore his testimony of the gospel and his conversion story and then told us how he had a friend he has been wanting to share the gospel with. He wanted to go right then to show us where he lived and invite him to come to church on Sunday. Unfortunately his friend wasn't home but it is so cool to see the fire he has, and how bad he wants to share it. Hopefully this week we can touch base again and see how it goes.

Friday there was a big meeting for all the zone and district leaders. Someone flew in from SLC who is high up in the missionary department so Elder King went to that and I went with the same Tongan elders I was with last week. The meeting went longer than expected so We didn't end up doing much in our area. The cool thing about it was I ran into Max, who was baptized in Ka'u while I was there and his Girlfriend Le'a who is also from Ka'u. We were jsut walking down the road and someone called out my name. and pulled off to the side of the street. It was cool to see them and ask about how things were back in Ka'u and everything so that was fun. It was cool to hear that my friend Koa from Ka'u has decided to serve a mission.

Saturday we had one last exchange for the transfer I stayed in my area and brought Elder Savage with me. We ended up driving all the way up to Wahiawa to give a member a blessing and then we had to get all the way back to down town Honolulu for dinner. It was quite the day. Elder Savage is going home on Thursday so he was kinda trucky, not quite as fun to be around ha ha.

Yesterday was a solid day we had lunch again with the Futialo family. They have decided to make it a weekly thing. The parents are non members so we are working with them. They had other plans than church this week though so that was kinda a bummer, next week though. Church was good. The high councilor was palogi so his talk was in English, We ended up with Dinner at Bishops. It was a lot of fun. They are so funny and we had a good laugh sharing stories. I think I truly feel comfortable in this ward. I was a little worried I would get transferred I am so glad I didn't. This transfer ought to have some miracles so that is exciting. Glad to hear everyone seemed to have a good week even with the holiday in the middle. We hear lots of jets flying overhead when the airforce is doing its test runs, but sounds like a step up for Grantsville's parade. Love you all. Thanks for all that you do. Aloha!
 Love, Elder Tripp
